Our Staff

John Smigielski was born in Detroit's Poletown Area and attended Wayne State University where he obtained his mortuary science certificate. He then went on to earn a bachelor's degree for advertising. John is a member of the Michigan Funeral Directors Association and Thumb Area Funeral Directors as well as many other area organizations. He started Smigielski Funeral Home in 1981 and has been active ever since. John currently lives in Ubly has two grown children; Mark and Michelle and three grandchildren.

Being a relative of Ernie Zinger, previous owner of Zinger Smigielski Funeral Home, funeral directing has been in Seth's blood since he was born. At the age of 12, Seth lost a very close friend to a tragic accident, which solidified his desire to help families in need when losing a loved one.

Seth grew up in Imlay City on a farm, after which he attended Baker College of Flint, where he earned a certificate in sterile processing. After leaving Baker College, Seth worked at McLaren Hospital in Port Huron. He attended the Wayne State University School of Mortuary Science, earning a bachelor's degree in the field.

Seth has been working at Zinger Smigielski Funeral Home since November of 2021.
