Michael J. Gucwa, 66, known as Mike, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2023, in Cass City, Michigan, after a brave battle with a long illness. Born in Bad Axe, Michigan, on October 14, 1956, he was the beloved son of Mary (Janik) Gucwa and the late Walter Gucwa.
Mike was a lifelong resident of Bad Axe, where he attended and graduated from Bad Axe High School. He was passionate about farming and dedicated his entire life to working the land. His love for agriculture extended to an impressive collection of model tractors.
In addition to his tireless work ethic, he was devoted to his beloved dog, Precious. Those who knew Mike could attest to the outstanding care and attention he gave to Precious, as anywhere that he went, his loyal companion would follow, whether that was on the tractor while farming or simply relaxing at home.. He was also known for his commitment to maintaining a well-kept lawn, taking great pride in the appearance of his home and property.
Mike is survived by his loving mother, Mary Gucwa; his brothers Chester (Linda) Gucwa and Adam (Cindy) Gucwa; his sister, Linda Gucwa; his cherished godchildren, Serena, Stacey, Doug, and Robert; and many adored nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his father, Walter Gucwa; his grandparents, John and Lottie Janik and Helen and Michael Gucwa; and his great-nephew, Jacob.
A funeral Mass will be held by Rev. Nate Harburg, on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Columbkille Catholic Church, Good Shepard Parish. Burial will be in St. Columbkille Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home. There will also be visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at St. Columbkille Catholic Church, Good Shepard Parish, on June 1, 2023.
Memorials may be offered to the family, care of Mike’s sister, Linda.
The family of Mike would also like to express their sincere gratitude to the nursing staff of Medilodge of Cass City, and to the staff of Compassus Hospice for their kind and loving care of Mike.
