Mary C. Doerr (VanDalen), 86 of Argyle, passed away peacefully at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe on December 30, 2022.
Mary was born on December 20, 1936 in Palms, MI to the late August and Cecelia (Messing) VanDalen. She married William (Bill) Doerr on March 2, 1957 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Palms.
Mary was a 1954 graduate of Ubly High School. She worked at Yale Rubber in Sandusky for 8 years. Later she attended St Clair Community College, graduating as a licensed practical nurse. She worked for Hills and Dales Community Hospital.. Finally, Mary worked at Farmer’s Elevator Company of Minden City until her retirement.
Mary enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading, and visiting with friends and neighbors. She truly cherished her time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandsons.
She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Good Shepherd Parish of Argyle, for over 50 years. Mary was active in church related activities until her health failed.
Mary is survived by her husband Bill of 65 years, three sons; Michael (Jessica) Doerr of Verona, Norman Doerr of Ubly, and Paul (Donna) Doerr of Orangevale, California; one daughter, Cecelia (Leland) Pratt of Bad Axe; twelve grandchildren; Tina (Ben) Peyerk of Juneau, Alaska, Scott (Lisa) Graichen of Port Austin, David Doerr of Washington D.C. Emily, Kevin, Eric, Phillip, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Henry, Caleb and Micah of Verona; Joey and Kaylee Hill of California, Megan (Mike) Bishop of Hart, and two great grandsons, Cooper Peyerk and Jonathan Graichen. Mary is also survived by her brothers; Joe (Margaret) VanDalen and Bill (Katie) VanDalen, both of Palms; sister-in-law Joyce Doerr of Peck; brothers-in-law Lawrence (Lorraine) Doerr of Sandusky and Larry Walters of Newaygo; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She also has a very special family which she considers her own. Chuck and Mary Spaetzel of Snover, their six children, and many great grandchildren.
Mary is preceded in death by her sisters; Martha Walters and Paula VanDalen; a brother; Daniel VanDalen; her mother-in-law and father-in-law; Norman and Ileen (Brown) Doerr; stepfather-in-law; Paul Wallace; and sister-in-law Normalena Doerr and brother-in-law Donald Doerr.
The Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 4th, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Good Shepherd Parish, Argyle. Rev. Nate Harburg officiating. Mary will be laid to rest in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Tuesday, January 3rd from 3:00-7:00 pm and Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 10:00-10:45 am. Vigil service will be held at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Tuesday, January 3rd at 6:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family which will be given to the St. Joseph Church maintenance fund.
