Marc J. Tenbusch, age 88, of Ubly, Michigan passed away on May 4, 2023 at Meadow Lane after a long illness. He was born on the family farm near Ubly, MI on May 26, 1934 to the late Clarence and Helen (Guitar) Tenbusch.
Marc received his elementary school education at the McMillan Rural School through the eighth grade and went on to attend Ubly High School where he graduated with the Class of 1952. He furthered his education at the Northeastern School of Commerce in Bay City, MI., graduating in 1954. While attending business school, Marc worked as an assistant at the Stapish Funeral Home in Bay City. He began his work career in 1954 as a secretary/bookkeeper for the Ubly Community Schools. He was then inducted into the United States Army on Feb. 20, 1957, receiving his basic training at Fort Carson, Colorado. With his business education and work experience, Marc was assigned to work in the Personnel Department as clerk-typist and Assistant Sgt. Major in the Office of Headquarters while stationed at the 1st Guided Missile Battalion at Fort Bliss, Texas from 1957-1959. He attained the rank of Specialist Fourth Class, and was awarded the Good Conduct Award Medal, and Ribbon for
Exemplary Behavior, Efficiency, and Fidelity. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Marc returned home to Ubly where he resumed his work as Business Manager of the Ubly Community Schools for a total of 47 years, retiring on Dec. 31, 2002. He received the honors of “Top Ten” Educational Office Personnel of the year 1971-72 in the State of Michigan; and Thumb Friend of Youth-Meet of Champions Award. After retirement, Marc continued to have a strong interest in the education of our youth and served for eight and one-half years as a member of the Ubly School Board, serving as Treasurer for 7 years. He also served on the Diocese of Saginaw Board of Education, as well as the Diocesan Commission.
Being a very community minded person with an outgoing personality who loved to meet new people, socialize, and work with others. Marc was very involved in several community and church related organizations. He was a former member of the Ubly Community Club, holding the offices of President and Treasurer; a long time member of the Ruth Knights of Columbus Council 3823, serving as Secretary Recorder for 20 years. His catholic faith was extremely important to him and as an active member of St. Isidore Parish (St. Mary Catholic Church) of Parisville, MI and St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church. of Bay City, he served as an usher and lector at both parishes. In addition, he was a member of the St. Mary Men's Club serving as President for 21 years; served on the Parish Pastoral Council numerous times holding several offices: the St. Ian Parish Festival Committee where he was in charge of finance and festival promotion for 24 years. He also led Wake Vigil/Rosary Services for the deceased members of St. Mary Parish and fellow Knights of Columbus members.
Marc’s favorite activities included going to church to participate in the Mass; listening, and especial1y dancing; to the polka music of his favorite bands front the Midwest and East coast. He especially enjoyed the role of serving as “Master of Ceremonies” at numerous retirement parties for friends and co-workers, and could never resist the opportunity to drive to a Casino near or far to challenge his luck at the slots. Marc had a knack for remembering the names of co-workers and acquaintances, enjoyed being precise in his work and all he did, and being on time for work and any occasion. He took great pride in meticulously mowing his lawn. taking care of his yard, and keeping his car in polished condition. There was nothing Marc enjoyed more than a being a part of a large gathering of friends, family members, and fellow parishioners where he could be part of a lively conversation in the company of others. He loved to attend wakes and funerals for friends and family, polish festivals, Tenbusch family get-togethers, and relished invitations to weddings, anniversaries, graduation parties, and any other event where he could socialize with others, and the more people gathered in one place, all the better!
Marc was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bob Tenbusch; sister, Beatrice Oswald and brother-in-law Richard Oswald.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Marie Tenbusch of Bad Axe; nephews: Wallace (Joy) Tenbusch of Bad Axe; Douglas (Karen) Tenbusch of Deford; Larry (Vicki) Oswald of Sandusky; Eugene and Kevin Oswald of Croswell; Nieces: Celine Richards of Bay City: and MaryJo (Bryan) Chisholm of Rockford; 6 great nephews, 9 great nieces, 13 great-great nephews, and 14 great-great nieces.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly, MI on Monday, May 8, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with the rosary prayed at 6:00 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be visitation at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Marc will be laid to rest next to his parents in the St. John Parish Cemetery in Ubly.
