Mrs. Karen Gornowicz, 78 of Ubly, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at the Karmanos Cancer Center in Detroit.
She was born November 2, 1943 in to the late Eugene and Sylvia (Rumptz) Priemer. She married Harold Gornowicz on April 27, 1963 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. He preceded her in death on October 17, 2012.
Karen was a graduate of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic High School. She started her employment at Yale Rubber and worked on the family farm. Karen was employed as a cook at the Minden City Elementary School until it closed. She then worked as an operator for Dotts Manufacturing, retiring after 26 years of employment. Karen was a parishioner of Good Shepherd Parish in Ubly where she was very involved in church activities. She enjoyed making quilts, especially for her family. She also enjoyed playing cards and putting together jigsaw puzzles. Karen cherished her family and the time she spent with them, especially her grandchildren.
Karen is survived by her loving children, Thomas and his wife, Sue, of Minden City, Lisa Koglin and her husband, David of Bad Axe, H. John Gornowicz and his significant other, Michelle Morrish of Kingston; eight grandchildren; Jennifer Monzo and her significant other, Robert Rohn, Kristy Gamer, Stephen (Kathleen) Gamer, Shaun (Brittney) Gamer, Kristyna (Thomas A.) Robinson, Allyson (Wesley) Roggenbuck, Eric (Katie) Koglin, Alyssa Gornowicz; 16 great grandchildren, Mickayla (Curtis) Kerr, Krysta Jackson and special friend, Justin, Kaleigh (Alex) Prill, Anthony Grifka and special friend, Taryn, Jaylynn Monzo and special friend Ethan, Jordan Monzo and Christian Monzo, Levi Gamer, McKenzie, Miley and Trenton Gamer, Cooper and Marshall Roggenbuck, Ryan, Madison and Evelyn Robinson; four great great grandchildren, Elsie and Avery Sherman, Harlee Rose Monzo, Maxton Stillson, four sisters, Judy (Jerome) Messing of Ubly, Jean (Daniel) Kramer of Harbor Beach, Cheryl (James) Hill of KY, Luann (Calvin) Oberski of Ruth; four sisters-in-law, Barbara (Carl) Keller of Snover, Judith (Ken) Bonin of FL, Sandra (George) Augustyniak of Pinconning, Audrey (Ron) Grifka; one brother-in-law, Leo (Betty) Gornowicz; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Virgil Gornowicz and Robert Gornowicz Sr.; one sister-in-law, Susie Gornowicz; goddaughter, Catherine (Cathy) Klee.
The Memorial Mass for Karen will be 11:00 am, Friday, November 12 at St. John Catholic Church, Good Shepherd Parish in Ubly. Rev. Nate Harburg will officiate. Karen will be laid to rest next to her husband, Harold, in St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery in Freiburg.
Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Thursday, November 11 from 4:00-8:00 pm and Friday at the church only from 10:00-10:45 am. There will be a rosary recited Thursday evening at 6:30 pm at the funeral home.
