Mrs. Jean Margaret Helewski, 59 of Bad Axe, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2018 surrounded by her loving family at her residence while under hospice care.
She was born on May 17, 1959 in Bad Axe to the late Bernard and MaryAnn (Plevnia) Puvalowski. She married David Helewski on August 8, 1981 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville.
Jean was a graduate of St. Mary Elementary School and a 1977 graduate of Ubly High School. She worked for Gemini for a few years. She was a bartender/waitress at the Verona Tavern for 14 years. Jean was a former parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville and Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Smith Corners. She was a current parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Hubert Parish in Bad Axe. Jean cherished being a farmer’s wife, loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed Christmas, cooking, canning, cross stitching, gardening, working outdoors, listening and dancing to polka music, country music, word finds and reading romance novels.
Jean is survived by her husband, David Helewski of Bad Axe; three children, Stacey (Ronald) Roberts of Surprise, AZ, Erica Helewski of Grand Rapids, Craig (Kayla) Helewski of Wytheville, VA; two grandchildren, Ellie and Baby Boy Helewski; step-mother, Betty Puvalowski; 8 siblings, Debra (David) Armbruster of Pigeon, Claude (Denise) Puvalowski of Ruth; Loraine (William) Goretski of Port Austin, Diane Puvalowski of Bad Axe, Jamie (David) Siemen of Harbor Beach, Scott (Caren) Puvalowski of Ubly, Angela (Charles) Stringer of Palms; 9 In-laws, Rick (Julie) Helewski of Ubly, Patricia (Kenneth) Majeski of Kinde, Margaret Frantz of Kinde, Susanna (Carl) Weber of Ubly, Barbara (Don) Kolar of Minden City, Carlin (Stephen) Maurer of Bad Axe; Marilyn (Robert) Grocholski of Bay City, Mary Jo (Barry) Wolschleger of Ubly, Laurie (Richard) Block of Minden City; one brother-in-law, Brian Maurer of Crystal Falls; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Stanley and Rita Helewski; one sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Maurer; two brothers-in-law, Marv Andreski and Dick Frantz.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 am Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church, St. Isidore Parish in Parisville. Rev. Robert Howe, pastor of St. Hubert Parish of Bad Axe, will officiate. Burial will be in Most Holy Trinity Cemetery in Smith Corners. The luncheon will follow at Oswald Hall, St. Hubert Parish, 311 Whitelam St., Bad Axe, MI 48413.
Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Tuesday from 2:00-8:00 pm and Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church from 10:00-10:45 am. There will be a parish vigil service Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Memorials have been requested to the Family Discretionary Fund, care of David Helewski.
