Evelyn Magdelin Gucwa

Mrs. Evelyn Magdelin (Bureiza) Gucwa, 95 of Davison, MI and formerly of Bad Axe passed away on May 2, 2021.

            She was born on July 23, 1925 in Rapson to the late Joseph and Frances (Maikrzek) Bureiza. Evelyn married Tony (Anthony) Gucwa on May 10, 1947 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson. He preceded her in death on November 25, 1992.

            Evelyn and her husband farmed and raised their family near Bad Axe. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Evelyn was hard working. She enjoyed reading, adult coloring books, quilting, sewing, crocheting, embroidery, playing games and cards, crossword puzzles and a good joke.

            Evelyn is survived by her five children, Susan (Gerald) Sweeney of Charlotte, MI, Marie (Clarence) Reeves of Kawkawlin, MI, Gregory Gucwa and Mark Gucwa, both of Davison, MI, Katherine (Dan) Robbins of Ann Arbor, MI; 11 grandchildren, Michelle (Philip) Powers, Richard (Alecia) Sweeney, Daniel (Kerri) Sweeney, Eric (Dawn) Sweeney, Amy (Mark) Basket, Jacob Gucwa, Robert Gucwa, Ryan Robbins, Nigel Robbins, Christopher Robbins, Natalie Robbins; 13 great grandchildren, Elisabeth (Jordon) Cuccio, Abigail Powers, Cecelia Powers, Sydney Sweeney, Owen Sweeney, Liam Sweeney, Jack Sweeney, Finnegan Sweeney, Whitaker Sweeney, Zachary Basket, Nicholas Basket, Sarah Basket, Avery Robbins; 2 great great grandchildren, Sophia and Leia; many nieces and nephews.

            Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Tony, daughter-in-law, Kathleen Gucwa; sisters, Angeline (Sylvester) Wrubel, Rose (Frank) Heleski, Adelaide (Theodore) Gucwa and Emma Bureiza; brothers, Peter (Mildred), Thomas, August and Julius Bureiza.

            Per the Saginaw Dioceses, masks are required to enter church. Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 am Friday, May 7, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Hubert Parish in Bad Axe. Rev. T.J. Fleming, pastor will officiate. Burial will be next to her beloved husband, Tony, in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

            Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Thursday from 5:00-8:00 pm and Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 10:00-10:45 am. There will be a parish vigil service Thursday evening at 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
