Caroline A. Maurer, age 85, of Ubly passed away at home September 27, 2022, surrounded by the love of her family.
Caroline was born December 2, 1936, in Harbor Beach to the late Theodore and Frances (Prill) Shubert. She was a 1954 graduate of Bad Axe High School and was employed at the Huron County Probate Court for several years. She later worked for law firms in the Detroit area until returning to Huron County after her marriage to Haven Maurer, son of Anthony and Irene Maurer, on September 10, 1966, in Mt. Clemens, Mich.
Caroline was a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Good Shepherd Parish of Ubly where she was a former president of the Christian Mothers.
Caroline became an active partner in her husband’s construction business until their retirement in 2003. She had many hobbies, including gardening, reading, quilting, and a passion for tracing her family roots. But her favorite pastime was spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Maurer, Rochester Hills, Mary Maurer (Jim Pollum), Ubly, and Kathy (Robert) Kociba, Ubly; two grandchildren, Amanda Klemmer, Elkton, and Andrea (Philip) Ajlouni, Lake Orion; sisters, Lillian (Gary) Rooney, Shelby Township, and Angeline Waddell, Springfield, Ill.; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Haven, in 2009; sister, Raymonda Beaver; and brothers-in-law, Orval Beaver and Donald Waddell.
Caroline and the family would like to thank Compassus Hospice for their extraordinary and excellent care. They would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to the home nursing excellence they received from Liz Booms, Lisa Gornowicz and Stephanie Wood.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 am Friday, September 30 at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. Rev. Nate Harburg, pastor, will officiate. Caroline will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Haven, in the St. John Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Thursday from 3:00-8:00 pm and Friday morning from 9:30-10:00 am with procession to church. There will be a Christian Mothers rosary Thursday at 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
