Mr. Arnold T. Eggert, 94, went to be with the Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 15, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born March 11, 1924 to the late Theodore and Helene (Schultz) Eggert and lived in the Port Hope Area all his life. He married Bernice M. Pilaske on December 22, 1945 at St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope. After 58 years of blissful marriage, she preceded him in death on January 24, 2004.
Arnold attended the St. John Lutheran School through the 8th grade. He attended the Port Hope Community Schools through the 10th grade and then farmed until he was 21 years old. He spent his years working for several companies in the area. Arnold spent 16 years working for Clarence and Sons and the Boron Gas Station in Port Hope before retiring on April 1, 1987 due to health reasons. He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope where he had served on the Finance Board and Board of Education. He was an active member of the Port Hope Fire Department for 47 years. Arnold was a Zoning Administrator for 12 years and as the inspector for new sewer installations for the Zoning Board. He served on the Village of Port Hope Council for 36 years from 1980-2006 and again from 2008 until his death.
Arnold is survived by his daughter, Penny (Gene) Bucholtz of Harbor Beach; son, Arnie (Mary) Eggert of Port Hope; 7 grandchildren, Tammy (Ken) Kolomak, Kerri (Scott) Essenmacher, Todd ((Nancy) Bucholtz, Kyle (Emily) Bucholtz, Jennifer (Brian) Iseler, Jodi (Robert) Porzandek, Casey (special friend, Amber) Eggert; 16 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; one brother, Merl (Patsy) Eggert; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Eggert, Lori Eggert; brother-in-law, Emerson (Irene) Pilaske; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his In-Laws, William and Tina Pilaske; daughter-in-law, Diane (Kaufman) Eggert; sister, Alma Engel; brothers, Wilbur, Erwin and Robert Eggert; sisters-in-law, Betty Eggert, Luella Eggert, Genevieve (Pilaske) Soine/Sadowski, Thelma (Pilaske) Pleiness; brothers-in-law, Oliver Soine, Walton Engel, August Pleiness, Tony Sadowski; 4 nieces and 3 nephews.
A private funeral service for Arnold was held at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Tuesday, December 18, 2018. Rev. David Dodge, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Hope officiated. Burial took place in the Lakeview Cemetery in Port Hope.
