Mrs. Ann Louise Johnson Thompson, 82 of Ubly, passed away Wednesday morning, April 4, 2018 at the Huron County Medical Care Facility.
She was born on September 19, 1935 in Chicago, IL to the late Arthur and Lucille (Roche) Grabruck. She married Henry Thompson on February 12, 1999 in Indiana. He preceded her in death in June of 2015.
Ann graduated from Dominican High School in Detroit. Ann received her bachelor’s degree of education from the University of Detroit and attended special education classes at Eastern Michigan University. Her teaching career expanded for over 40 years and included teaching severely, multiple impaired, handicapped children in the Sanilac Intermediate School District (SISD). Ann started the Therapeutic Horse Riding program at SISD for special needs children. She was a member for the Sanilac County Mental Health Board for 18 years and a member of the Austin Township Zoning Committee. Ann’s passions in life included taking pictures, being outdoors and her beloved animals that were under her care. She truly cherished time spent with her loving grandchildren.
Ann is survived by one daughter, Alyse Strahm of Saginaw; two grandchildren, Joshua Strahm and his wife, Kristy of Saginaw, Ashley Boonstra and her husband, Matthew of Charleston, IL; three great grandchildren, Jacob Strahm and Evelyn Strahm of Saginaw, Lola Boonstra of Charleston, IL.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Alynn Hachey and one great granddaughter, Patsy Ann Robinette.
Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, April 6, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Hubert Parish in Bad Axe. Rev. Robert Howe, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, next to her beloved husband, Henry.
Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Thursday from 2:30-8 pm and Friday at Sacred Heart Church from 10:00-11:00 am.
Memorials have been requested to Sanilac County 4-H or the Salvation Army.
