Mrs. Johnnie I. “Dean” Zinger, 95 of Ubly, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 12, 2018 at her residence while under hospice care.
She was born on October 13, 1922 in Pattonville, TX to the late Charles L. and Martha V. (Holt) Pomroy. She married Ernest E. Zinger on January 2, 1946 at Camp Maxey near Paris, Texas. He preceded her in death on September 3, 1988.
Dean was raised in Paris, TX. She graduated from the Paris High School and then attended the Paris Junior College. She worked for a telephone company for a few years. Once Dean and Ernie moved to Ubly, she worked with him at Zinger Funeral Home in both Ubly and Ruth, retiring with Ernie in 1981. Dean participated in many of the Alamaba Jubilee productions. She was also involved in many Ubly clubs, including the Community Club and Lions Club. She was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe for many years. Dean was an avid Scrabble player and was the reigning Family Champion. She enjoyed baking and cooking. She loved to read and spend cherished time with her family and friends.
Dean is survived by six children, Charles E. Zinger and his wife, Joanne of Colleyville, TX, Jon R. Zinger and his wife, Sherri of Tempe, AZ, Lynn M. McDaniel and her husband, Robert of Rowlett, TX, Mark K. Zinger and his wife, Paula of Leetsdale, PA, Audean S. Vatter of Ubly, Ernest W. Zinger and his wife, Corinne of Holly, 20 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren.
The funeral service for Dean will be 4:00 pm Saturday, February 17 at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Rev. Kenneth Lueke of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bad Axe will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery of Ubly in the spring.
Visitation will be at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Saturday from 1:00-4:00.
