Mrs. Donna Belle Messing, 92 of Ruth passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 at the Harbor Beach Extended Care Facility. She was born on December 5, 1925 in Caseville to the late Clarence and Edlie (Commins) Horton Sr. She married Clement J. Messing on June 24, 1944 in Detroit. He preceded her in death on December 15, 2009. Donna was a Rosie the Riveter during WWII. She farmed with her husband near Ruth and was also employed at Hamils Manufacturing. She was a current parishioner of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Holy Apostles Parish in Ruth where she was a member of the Christian Mothers. Donna enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, reading, puzzles and quilting. She cherished time spent with her family. Donna is survived by her children, Jacqueline Volmering of Ruth, Linda (Roland) Siemen of Harbor Beach, Doreen (James) Bukoski of Caro, John (Catherine) Messing of Lexington, Marlene (Kenton) Byrd of Forestville, Sandra (Eugene) Wasierski of Ubly, Kevin (Shelly) Messing of Fenton; 33 grandchildren; 69 great grandchildren; 20 great great grandchildren; one brother, Larry (Ruth) Horton of Grand Haven; sisters-in-law, Mary Essenmacher of Harbor Beach and Gladys Priemer of Ruth; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Messing; three sons-in-law, Richard Feury, Thomas Schumacher and Raymond Volmering; three brothers, Clarence Horton Jr. and his wife, Kate, Lewis Horton, George Emerson Horton; five sisters, Eva Moore, Thelma Arntz and husband, Earl, Marie Malone, Madeline Marks, Ula Rae Messing and husband, James; eleven brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 am, Thursday, February 15 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Holy Apostles Parish in Ruth. Rev. Christopher Coman, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Wednesday from 2:00-8:00 pm and Thursday from 10:00-11:00 am at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church only. There will be a Christian Mothers rosary Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorials have been requested to the Family Discretionary Fund.
