Louis Albert Walsh, age 86 of Ubly, passed away September 7, 2017 at home surrounded by family. He was born November 5th, 1930 in Austin Township to the late Walter and Susan (McMillan) Walsh. Following graduation from Ubly High School he started farming. In June 1953 he married Rosalie Keller and the couple soon moved to Texas where Louis served in the U.S. Army. After completing his Army duties, the couple returned to Cumber where Louis farmed for the next 61 years. He loved driving tractor and always planted all the corn. Louie’s interests including bowling, Cumber softball, snowmobiling, fishing, golfing, dancing, roller skating, pheasant and deer hunting, and bartering for the best deal. He was a huge Detroit Tiger fan. One of his favorite pastimes was playing euchre and pinochle, and especially playing games with the grandchildren (and giving wet willeys). He was involved in a number of groups and activities including: St. Joseph Parish Council President, FFA Booster Club Treasurer, Cumber Slow Pitch Softball, Cumber Angels Snowmobile Club, Monday night bowling, NFO Director for milk, (very) light housework, and parenting 3 children. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Rosalie Walsh of Ubly, children, Rebecca (Charlie) Cregeur of Armada, Rachel (Dale) Maurer of Snover, Rodney (Nanette) Walsh of Ubly; 8 grandchildren, Nathan (Lucie) Cregeur, Shannon (Anthony) Darket, Rob (Rachel) Maurer, Renee’ (Chris Fay) Maurer, Tiffany (Brennen) Winter, Alex (Tara Neubecker) Walsh, Clark (Sarah) Walsh, Victoria (Kyle Mazure) Walsh, 5 great grandchildren, Mason Maurer, Trenton Maurer, Atlas Darket, Wolf Darket, and Anna Rose Cregeur; one brother, Walter “Joseph” (Patricia) Walsh of Ubly and one sister, Susan Brown of San Diego, CA. He was preceded in death by 4 children, Richard, Sydney, Joseph, and Renee; six brothers, Mark “Pete”, Leo, Raymond, Maurice, Daniel and Michael Walsh; two sisters, Lila Lamphere and Beatrice Bauman; three brothers-in-law, Grant Lamphere, Jay Brown and Joseph Bauman. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 am Tuesday, September 12 at Good Shepherd Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Argyle. Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the T.V.O. Post #1. Visitation will be Monday, September 11th at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home Ubly from 2-8 pm. There will be a parish vigil service Monday evening at 7 pm. On Tuesday, September 12th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Argyle from 10-11 am. In Lieu of flowers, memorials have been requested to McLaren Hospice or the Ronald McDonald House.
