Mr. Chester Bartnik, 92 of Pontiac, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2017 at his daughter’s residence in Goodrich. Chester was born on March 16, 1925 in Detroit, MI to the late Stanley and Frances (Kohan) Bartnik. He married Frances Janik on June 17, 1950 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners. She preceded him in death on January 25, 2007. Chester was a graduate of a country school. He farmed until 1950, moved to Pontiac and lived there for the past 67 years. He was a parishioner of St. Michael Catholic Church in Pontiac. Chester retired from General Motors in 1990. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, traveling and cruises, word search puzzles and spending time with his family. Chester is survived by his children, Helen Cunningham and her husband, Dale of Grand Blanc, Chester Bartnik Jr. and his wife, Kathleen of Waterford, Lottie Hodges and her husband, Courtney of Goodrich, Mary Muenz and her husband, Douglas of Prescott; two daughters-in-law, Linda Bartnik of Oxford, Cathy Bartnik of Burton; 16 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; one brother, Henry Bartnik and his wife, Elfrieda of Cass City. He was preceded in death by two sons, Walter and Peter; two brothers, Casimir and Edward Bartnik. Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 am Monday, August 28 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church of Good Shepherd Parish in Sheridan Corners. Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Sunday from 1:00-8:00 pm and Monday from 10:00-11:00 am at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan Corners. There will be a rosary Sunday evening at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorials have been requested to McLaren Hospice or the American Heart Association.
