Mrs. Judy Jean Booms, 72 of Harbor Beach, passed away suddenly Sunday, July 31, 2016 at McLaren Bay Region Hospital. She was born on February 20, 1944 at home in Minden City to the late Raymond and Bertha (Gatza) Messing. She married Angus John Booms on August 24, 1963 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. Judy graduated from Sts. Peter & Paul High School. She was a homemaker and loved to do everything of the family farm, except milk cows. Prior to marrying Angus, Judy worked at Dieform in Deckerville for a few years. Judy worked Dian’s Catering for over 25 years. She was a parishioner of Holy Apostle Parish, Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ruth where Judy was a Christian Mother member. She loved being the “Cookie Grandma” at Vacation Bible School at Sts. Peter & Paul Church for many summers. Judy played in the family Messing Trio band, playing accordion and piano. Judy spent countless hours with her grandchildren and kept her cookie jar full of scrumptious cookies for all of them. Judy is survived by her husband of 53 years, Angus, children, Rose Vitale and her husband, Pete of Clinton Township, Rochelle Vogel and her husband, Gene of Minden City, Randy Booms and his wife, Betsy of Jenison, MI, Bradley Booms and his wife, Mary of Harbor Beach, Brian Booms and his wife, Kelly of Harbor Beach; 12 grandchildren, Nick and Sarah Vitale, Kayla, Melissa, and Jesse Vogel, Alisha and Collin Booms, Andrea and Arika Booms, Mason, Molly and Emily Booms; five brothers and four sisters, John (Peggy) Messing of White Rock, George (Linda) Messing of Fresno, CA, Donna (Leo) Emming of Ruth, Marie Gay of Leesburg, VA, Florence (Richard) Wolschleger of Ruth, Darlene (Florenzio) Ornelas of Beaverton, Alvin Messing of Minden City, Bernie (Pauline) Messing of Minden City, Ivan (Lori) Messing of Minden City; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Frost; one brother-in-law. Wm. Ben Gay, one sister-in-law, Connie Messing. Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 am Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Holy Apostle Parish, Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Christopher Coman, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Wednesday from 1:00-9:00 pm and Thursday from 10:00-11:00 am at Sts. Peter & Paul Church only. There will be a Christian Mothers rosary Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7:30 pm. Both services will be at the funeral home.
