Eleanor Annabell Geiger

Mrs. Eleanor A. (Essenmacher) Geiger of Ruth passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 27, 2016, at the Harbor Beach Community Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on May 11, 1918, to the late William and Agnes (Lorkowski) Essenmacher of Harbor Beach. Eleanor married Bernard M. Geiger, son the late Barney and Anna Geiger of Ruth on September 6, 1941, in Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. He preceded her in death on December 18, 2008. They were married 66 years. Eleanor was a graduate of East Huron Country School. Prior to their marriage, she worked in Bad Axe for three years. She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, and a life-time member of the Saints Peter and Paul Christian Mothers. Eleanor enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, cooking, baking, and made many quilts and afghans. She enjoyed traveling with her husband on numerous trips and visiting with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She is survived by six children: Robert (Pauline) Geiger of Stuart, Florida, Gary (Marileen) Geiger of Harbor Beach, Ronald (Michelle) Geiger of Gaylord, Sharon (Edward) Barry of Bay City, Debbie (Jonathan) Loesel of Clare, and Dale (Debbie) Geiger of Ruth; 16 grandchildren: Kimberly (Ray) Otero, Union, Kentucky; Steve (Julie) Geiger, Katy, Texas; Daniel (Maggie) Geiger, Kalamazoo; Connie (Darrin) Wolschlager, Harbor Beach; Kurt (Denise) Geiger, Harbor Beach, Pamela (Chad) Stein, Ruth; Chad (Jennifer) Geiger, Cadillac; Dawn (Shayne) Clayton, Gaylord, Dr. Aaron Barry, Oakland, California; Kristy (Anthony) Hessler, Troy; Carlie (Francois) Stander, DuBuque, Iowa; Mark (Claire) Loesel, San Francisco, California; Keith (Richelle) Geiger, Ruth; Jill (Matthew) Wilcox, Saginaw; Kevin Geiger, Ruth; Andrea (Justin) Messing, Ruth; 2 step grandchildren Cara (Matthew) Murphey, and Wesley McDougle; 26 great grandchildren; and 4 step great grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs. Verna Wood, Harbor Beach; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Janice (Essenmacher) Erdman of Ubly, and Kate Essenmacher of Harbor Beach; brother-in-law Mr. David Krueger of Harbor Beach; along with many nieces and nephews. Eleanor was preceded in death by granddaughter Lori Lynn Geiger; daughters-in-law Cheryl (Guitar) Geiger of Richmond, Kentucky, and Arlene (Halifax) Geiger of Gaylord; brothers Howard and Donald Essenmacher, and sister Edna Krueger all of Harbor Beach; brothers and sisters-in-law David and Marian Essenmacher, Arthur and Agnes Essenmacher, Clement and Elizabeth Geiger, Leona and Elmer Hessling, Cecelia and Joseph Sieman all of Harbor Beach, Leroy and Marie Geiger of Sandusky; and Shirley and Ernest Reinke of Port Hope. Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 am, Thursday, March 31 at Sts. Peter & Paul Church of Holy Apostle Parish in Ruth. Rev. Peter Nwokoye, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Wednesday from 1:30-9:00 pm. and Thursday from 9:00-10:00. There will be a Christian Mothers rosary Wednesday at 6:00 pm and a parish vigil service at 7:00 pm. Both services will be at the funeral home.
