Ernest James “Jim” Hagen, 56 of Ubly, passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on Thursday, March 17, 2016. Jim was born on January 12, 1960 in Bad Axe to Bryce and Bettie (McIntyre) Hagen. He married Doreen Krohn on June 4, 1992. Jim attended the Bingham #4 Country School and was a 1978 graduate of Ubly High School. Jim was a dedicated 4th generation Hagen farmer in Bingham Township. He was a lifelong crop and beef farmer. He enjoyed crop checking and watching his children in cattle competitions. Jim was a former member of the Michigan Cattlemen’s Association. Jim was a lifelong member of the Ubly First Presbyterian Church. He also enjoyed hunting. He truly cherished precious time spent with his family. Jim is survived by his wife, Doreen of Ubly; one son, Nicholas of Ubly, one daughter, Jennifer Hagen and her special friend George Hiller of Ubly; his parents, Bryce and Bettie Hagen of Ubly; two sisters, Mary Hagen and her special friend, Jim Fligger of Ubly, Ellen (Mike) Moorman of Ubly; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lyle and Phyllis Krohn of Bad Axe; four sisters-in-law, Sharlene Hagen of Ubly, Lorrie Krohn, Sue (Al) Danks and Sarah Frantz, all of Bad Axe, many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by one brother, Dennis Hagen and one sister-in-law, Cari Bukoski. The funeral service for Jim will be Saturday, March 19 at 12 noon at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Pastor Robert Srock, pastor of the Ubly First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Valley Cemetery in Ubly. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Friday from 2:00-8:00 pm and Saturday from 11:00 am until the service at 12 noon. Memorials have been requested to the Family Discretionary Fund.
