Mrs. Mary Susalla, 88 of Parisville, passed away Tuesday October 20, 2015 at Crittenton Hospital Medical Center of Rochester with her family by her side. She was born on May 7, 1927 to the late William and Gertrude (O’Parka) Zulka. She married Arthur Susalla on November 11, 1944 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. He preceded her in death on November 6, 1984. Mary worked in Hamtramck for several years before marrying Arthur and spending the remainder of her years raising a family and farming with her husband. During these years, she was employed at the Hamill Seat Belt factory in Ubly for ten years. She was a parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville where she was a member of the Rosary Sodality. Mary was an exceptional cook. She loved gardening and flowers of all kinds, especially her roses. Mary also enjoyed spending time camping, travelling on vacations with her family and casino trips. She was a very giving and kindhearted person who always put others before herself. Mary is survived by her ten loving children, Larry (Sharon) of Romeo, Marlene Calverley of Rochester, Daniel (Linda) of Imlay City, Harley (Debbie) of Romeo, Dennis (Lorraine) of Bad Axe, Carol (Dennis) Essenmacher of Minden City, Mark of Sterling Heights, Mary Jane (Ken) Lawrence of Leonard, Kerry of Ruth, Randy (Joyce) of Ruth; 19 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; one aunt, Beatrice Lemanski, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Frances and Isadore Kociba, Irene Eden, Beatrice Kubacki, Evelyn Susalla, Pat & Herb Vogel, Marie Zulka. Mary was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Michael Calverley, two brothers, Herbert and Stephen Zulka, three great grandchildren, Mason Kapron and Temprence and Arthur Essenmacher. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Saturday, October 24 at St. Mary Catholic Church of St. Isidore Parish in Parisville. Rev. Todd Arnberg, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home on Thursday from 6-9 pm, Friday from 1-9 pm and Saturday from 9-10 am. There will be a rosary Friday at 4 pm by the St. Mary Rosary Sodality. Memorials have been requested to the Family Discretionary Fund.
