Mrs. Elizabeth “Betty” Susalla, 90 of Parisville, was called home by her heavenly father on Friday, September 11, 2015. Betty was born in Detroit on August 17, 1925, daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Kozfka) Kucharczyk. Betty married Harold Susalla on June 7, 1947 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. Betty grew up on the family farm in the Parisville area. She attended Parisville Elementary School. She worked at her sister’s restaurant in Bad Axe before taking a job in Detroit at Bower Roller Bearing as an aircraft parts inspector during World War II. Together, Betty and Harold raised five children on their farm in Minden City. She was a parishioner at St. Isidore Parish, St. Mary Church in Parisville where she was a member of the Rosary Sodality, Betty was involved in the parish chairing many dinners and Polish festivals. Betty was a member of the Parisville VFW Post 5740 Auxiliary for forty years. She held various positions and participated in many parades and activities. Betty enjoyed traveling with Harold. They toured Poland, Australia, Germany and Hawaii. She enjoyed cooking, baking and especially polka dancing. Left to cherish Betty’s memory are her husband of 68 years, Harold; children, Leon (Susan) Susalla of Venice, Fla., Judy (Lavern) Mazure of Hale, Michael (Mary Jo) Susalla of Kalkaska, Wayne (Sherry) Susalla of Parisville; grandchildren, Michele (Scott) Olechnowicz, Anna (Matthew) Macura, Carolyn (Paul) Johnson, Matthew (Sarah) Mazure, Joshua Susalla, Jennifer Susalla and her special friend, Tom Mittlestat; great grandchildren, Jacob and Nickolas Olechnowicz, Amelia and Grant Macura, Hannah and Noah Johnson; many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her son, Ronald Susalla, grandson, David Susalla, her two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Elmer (Delores) Kucharczyk and Jack (Eileen) Kucharczyk; one sister and brother-in-law, Alice (George) Andrews. Mass of Christian burial for Betty will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 15 at St. Mary Church of St. Isidore Parish of Parisville. Rev. Todd Arnberg, pastor of St. Isidore will co-officiate the Mass with Rev. Charles Hammond. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Monday from 2:00-9:00 pm and Tuesday from 10:00-11:00 am at the church only. There will be a rosary on Monday afternoon at 4:30 pm by the St. Mary Rosary Sodality. The Parisville VFW Auxiliary Ladies will have a service immediately following the rosary.
