Mrs. Toini I. Spitale, 89 of Palms, passed away Monday, April 20, 2015 at her residence after a long illness while under hospice care. She was born on November 20, 1925, in Ontonagon, MI, daughter of the late Jacob and Edla Bukka. She married Charles Spitale on July 6, 1946 at Mother of Consolation Catholic Church in Detroit. He preceded her in death on March 21, 2006. Toini was a graduate of the Rockland High School. She worked as a bookkeeper at Davison Auto Parts Store in Detroit for many years before moving to Palms in 1979 and keeping books for Dott Manufacturing in Deckerville. She was a parishioner at St. Patrick Church, St. Isidore Parish in Palms. Toini was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. She truly enjoyed baking for her family and friends. Toini is survived by three sons, Joseph E. Spitale and his wife, Patricia of Boynton Beach, FL., Francis C. Spitale and his wife, Mary Ann, of Waterford, Samuel J. Spitale and his wife, Ahna, of Waynesborough, VA; one daughter, Mary J. Hammond of Palms; one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Spitale of Sterling Heights; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Toini was preceded in death by her son, John in 2004. A memorial service for Toini will be planned for a later date.
