John E. Franzel

Mr. John E. Franzel, 64 of Ubly, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the United Hospice Service of Marlette Regional Hospital. He was born on June 24, 1950 in Sandusky to the late Edward and June (Smith) Franzel. John was a devoted farmer who enjoyed driving his big trucks and tractors. He collected International Harvester Farmall and loved his red tractors. John also enjoyed paying cards, especially euchre and spending time with his family and friends. John is survived by one daughter, Melissa Wheeler and her husband, Harvey of Owosso; his significant other, Carol Becker of Ubly; two sisters, Penny Guigar and her husband, Archie of Ubly, Vicky Walling and her husband, Dennis, of Ubly; one brother-in-law, Robert Guigar of Ubly; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bonnie Rumptz and her husband, Wayne, Barbara Jean Guigar; one nephew, Todd Guigar. The funeral service for John will be 11:00 am Monday, January 26 at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor of Good Shepherd Parish will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Ignatius Cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00-9:00 pm and Monday from 10:00-11:00 am. Memorials have been requested to United Hospice of Marlette or the American Cancer Society.
