John C. Beaudin went peacefully to be with our Lord on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor after a hard fought battle with brain cancer. He was born on November 27, 1948 in Bad Axe to Madelyn (Frederick) Schrader and the late Fernand Beaudin. John was united in marriage to Carol Briolat on January 27, 1973 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ubly. John was a 1966 graduate of Ubly High School. He immediately enlisted in the United States Navy and served our country from 1967 to 1972. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. John worked for the Ubly Community Schools as a custodian and then became Facilities Director, retiring in 2010 after 24 years of committed service. John was a proud and active member of the Thumb Veterans Organization Post 1 and the Zurek Graham VFW Post 6965. Some of John’s favorite things were watching University of Michigan football team and the Detroit Tigers and playing horseshoes. John truly cherished his time spent with his loving family. John’s family would like to thank all of the wonderful caregivers that attended to him during his battle at St. Mary’s in Saginaw and the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. John is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carol of Ubly; three daughters, Jeanene (Rick) Schmidt of Ubly, Beth Beaudin-Seiler (Ryan Seiler) of Battle Creek; Sarah (Jeremy) Hoagland of Anthem, Ariz,; six grandchildren, Rickelle, Ricky and Erick Schmidt, Ryth and Ella John Seiler, Emily Hoagland; his mother, Madelyn Schrader of Ubly one brother, Ken (Sue) Beaudin of Midland; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and loved ones. John was preceded in death by one grandson, Beau Matthew Seiler and one brother Fredrick “Joe” Beaudin. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am, Monday, April 7 at Good Shepherd Parish, St. John Church in Ubly. Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor, will officiate. Full military honors will be provided for John following mass. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Saturday from 6:00-9:00 pm, Sunday from 1:30-9:00 pm and Monday from 9:00-10:00 am. There will be a parish vigil service Sunday evening at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, John’s family has requested donations made to the Family Discretionary Fund as they prepare to start the John C. Beaudin Memorial Military Award at Ubly High School. The have also requested memorials to the Thumb Veterans Organization Post 1 or the Zurek Graham VFW Post 6965.
