Mr. Raymond G. Murray, 86 of Ubly, passed away Monday, September 23, 2013 at Scheurer Hospital of Pigeon. He was born on October 2, 1926 in Ubly to the late Thomas P. and Josephine P. (Maurer) Murray. He married Thelma Armstead on October 4, 1952 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Raymond attended Ubly Community School and Ag School. Raymond was a farmer and then an egg buyer for 16 years. He delivered Rainbow Bread for 7 years. Raymond also worked at Carmet for 10 years and Gemini Plastics for 6 years. Raymond was a World War II Veteran serving in the Army from 1945-1947. He was a member of Ubly TVO Post #1, Ubly VFW Zurek Graham Post 6965 and Allied Veterans Council. He was a current member of Good Shepherd Parish, St. John Catholic Church in Ubly where he served as an usher. Raymond was a Detroit Lions and Tigers fan. He also enjoyed reading, bird watching and driving Michigan roads. Raymond is survived by his wife, Thelma of Ubly; 6 daughters, Linda M. (Gerry) Volz of Fairview, Diane K. (Dennis) Smalley of Ubly, Karen J. (Leo) Escarcega of Mount Shasta California, Barbara J. Murray and husband Robert Babiszewski of Ubly, Brenda A. Murray of Stone Mountain Georgia, Joyce F. (Edward) Matthews of Benicia California; 1 son, Thomas P. (Sharon) Murray of Ubly; 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; 1 brother, John J. Murray of Ubly; 2 sisters, Phyllis A. (Vincent) Roggenbuck of Snover and Jean E. Messing of Juneau Alaska; brother in-law, Bernard Armstead; sister in-law Rosemary Armstead both of Bad Axe. He was preceded in death by 1 son, Edward R. Murray and infant grandson Kyle R. Volz, 2 brothers, Clements and Harold, 2 sisters Grace M. Murray and Marjorie R. Abraham: his in-laws, Patricia Murray, Alvertia Hiller, Madelyn Hiller, Leroy Messing and Raymond Armstead. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 am Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Good Shepherd Parish, St. John Catholic Church in Ubly. Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John Catholic Cemetery in Ubly with graveside military honors. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Wednesday from 1:30-9:00 pm and Thursday from 9:00-10:00 am. There will be a parish vigil service Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been requested to Ubly Thumb Veterans Organization Post #1, Ubly VFW Zurek Graham Post 6965 or Allied Veterans Council.
