Marjorie L. Kumaus

Marjorie Lynn Kumaus, 80 of Bad Axe, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2013 with her family by her side, at Marlette Regional Hospital while under United Hospice Service’s care. She was born on January 8, 1933 in Bad Axe to the late Donald and Helen (Rankin) Patterson. She married Edward F. Kumaus on September 3, 1955 in Kinde. He preceded her in death on October 27, 1983. Marjorie was a 1950 graduate of Bad Axe High School. She attended the Flint Board of Education Nurses Training at St. Joseph Hospital in Flint and received her nursing license. She was employed by Dr. Willis in Flint for several years before returning to Bad Axe to work at Hubbard Hospital for many years. She also worked for Dr. Sorenson, Dr. Harrington and Dr. Kube before retiring in 1993. Marjorie was a life member and past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star #81 of Bad Axe. She was also a member of the Church of Huronia Chapter 81 and the Bad Axe Huron County Civil Air Patrol. She was a Cub Scouts den mother. Marjorie enjoyed dancing, crafts, hunting, fishing, traveling and socializing. Marjorie is survived by one son, Mark Kumaus and his wife, Radene of Ubly; one daughter, Kathleen Kumaus of North Carolina; grandchildren, Amanda, Andrea and Brandon of Ubly; one brother, Donald Patterson and his wife, Patricia of Bad Axe; niece Tammy Elenbaum; nephew Mike Patterson and his wife, Gina. An Order of the Eastern Star service for Marjorie will be 7 pm Wednesday, August 7 at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:30-8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Marjorie’s memory have been requested to United Hospice Service of Marlette.
