Matthew J. Piach, 91 of Florida and formerly of Tyre, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the Hospice House of Citrus County, Florida. He was born on June 9, 1921 in Chicago to the late Frank L. and Mary (Tora) Piach. He married Marion McLean on July 21, 1947 in Farmington, MI. Matthew attended the Freiburg Country School. He farmed with his family in Tyre before joining the US Army in 1942. He served during WWII until 1945. Matthew did road construction for many companies throughout Michigan. He resided in Plymouth from 1945 until 1988 when he and Marion moved to Florida. He enjoyed many kinds of hunting and fishing, and playing pinochle and checkers with his family. Matthew truly enjoyed visiting with everyone about his military experiences. Matthew is survived by his wife of almost 66 years, Marion J. Piach of Florida; one daughter, Mary Manor of Plymouth; two sons, James Piach and his wife, Jean of Rhodes, Mich., Richard Piach of Ypsilanti; six grandchildren, Chris Piach, Cathy Hadd, Mike & Kyle Manor, Bill Piach, Deanna Buck; 9 great grandchildren, Matthew and Brad Piach, Zac and Chelsea Hadd, Aiden and Carter Manor, Chase and Annabelle Piach and Allisa Buck, 2 great great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Gabrial Piach; two sisters, Helen Wruble of Sebewaing and Josephine Manzella of St. Clair Shores. Matthew was preceded in death by two brothers, Cass and Ted Piach; two sisters, Rose Wiesnewski and Theresa Piach. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 am Saturday, May 11 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Freiburg. Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Friday from 12 noon til 9 pm and Saturday from 10-11 am at the church only.
