Helen M. Peters

Mrs. Helen M. Peters, 85 of Ubly, passed away Monday, April 22, 2013 at Courtney Manor of Bad Axe with her loving family by her side. She was born on July 26, 1927 in Tyre to the late Frank and Mary (Sadro) Osantowski. She married Emmet A. Peters on May 3, 1947 at St. Ignatius Catholic church in Freiburg. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1999. Helen was a graduate of the Tyre Country School. She worked in Detroit for five years at a dime store before returning to Austin Township in 1950. She then farmed with her husband. Helen worked at Walbro Corp. for 23 years before retiring in 1990. She was a lifelong member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Freiburg where she was a former member of the Altar Society. Helen enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing cards and visiting with her wonderful family. Helen is survived by six children, Mary Lou Krueger and her husband, Gary of Ubly, Edward E. Peters and his wife, Carol of Bad Axe, Frank W. Peters and his wife, Sherry of Brown City, Connie Meyer and her husband, John of Ubly, Dale Peters and his wife, Marsha of Deckerville, Jonnie Peters and his wife, Missy of Snover; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Osantowski and his wife Blanche of Melvin. She was preceded in death by one son, Frederick in 1990; two brothers, Robert and Marcus Osantowski, a few brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Mass of Christian burial for Helen will be 11 am Thursday, April 25 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Freiburg. Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Tuesday from 6:00-9:00 pm, Wednesday from 1:00-9:00 pm, and Thursday from 10:00-11:00 am at the church. There will be a rosary Tuesday evening at 7:30 pm and a parish vigil service Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm. Both services will be at the funeral home.
