Mrs. Gertrude Block, 99 of Bad Axe and formerly of Parisville, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. Gertrude was born on October 7, 1913 in Parisville to the late Peter and Agnes (O’Parka) Palach. She married Frank Block on November 27, 1941 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. He preceded her in death on October 3, 1984. Gertrude was a graduate of a country school. She farmed with her family. Gertrude was a lifelong parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville, was a member of the St. Mary Rosary Sodality and participated in the parish festivals. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, cooking and baking. Gertrude is survived by three daughters, Eileen Dorough of Livonia, Delphine Picard of South Lyon, Mary Ann Soule of Grosse Pointe Woods; eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son, Carl, three sons-in-law, William Dorough, Robert Picard and Byron Soule, seven brothers and sisters. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, November 6 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. Rev. Peter Nwokoye, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Monday from 2:30-9:00 pm and Tuesday from 10:00-11:00 am at the church only. There will be a rosary Monday at 4:00 pm by the St. Mary Rosary Sodality. Memorials have been requested to the Family Discretionary Fund.
