Mary Catherine O'Connor

Mary C. O’Connor, 95 of Minden City passed away Wednesday April 4, 2012 at the Huron County Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe following an extended illness. Mary was born on February 9, 1917 in Marcus, Iowa, daughter of the late John and Margaret (Dalton) Kelly. She was united in marriage to Joseph O’Connor in Sioux City, Iowa on October 9, 1948. He preceded her in death on April 20, 1983. Mary was a graduate of the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Mason City, Iowa. She enlisted in the US Army Nursing Corp in 1943 as a 2nd Lieutenant and served in England with the 103rd General Hospital Corp. Until the conclusion of WWII. She was employed at Detroit Mount Carmel Mercy Hospital, Harbor Beach Hospital, Deckerville Hospital and the old Hubbard Hospital in Bad Axe. She was also employed at the Huron County Medical Care Facility before retiring in 1982. She was a parishioner at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Palms. Mary is survived by six children, Michael (Jill) O'Connor of Fort Gratiot, Patrick (Marlene) O'Connor of Suttons Bay, Terry (Yvonne) O'Connor of Minden City, Tom (Julie) O'Connor of Ubly, Kevin (Becky) O'Connor of Minden City, Margaret (Robert) Sobieck of Oneida, Wisc.; 21 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 1 Brother, James Kelly of Cincinnati, Ohio. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and John Kelly, one sister, Jean Reed; two infant siblings, two sisters-in-law, Theo Kelly and Mary Kelly. The prayer service will be 11 am Saturday, April 7 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Palms. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be at the Smigielski Funeral Home on Cass Ave in Minden City on Friday from 4-9 pm and Saturday from 10-11 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church only. There will be a St. Mary Men’s Club rosary Friday evening at 7 pm at the funeral home. Memorials are requested to the Family Discretionary Fund.
