Mr. William Lutz, 92 of Forestville, MI passed away Monday, August 29, 2011 at Courtney Manor Nursing Home in Bad Axe, MI. He was born on August 26, 1919 in Detroit to the late Walter and Wilhelmina (Mauer) Lutz. He married Eunice Guthrie on February 13, 1943 in Dearborn. William was a graduate of the University of Detroit receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy. He received his Master’s degree from Michigan State University. He started working for the Detroit News in 1943 at a reporter and later became the feature editor of the Sunday magazine. He retired from the Detroit News in 1981. He traveled all over the world for the Detroit News, reporting from a Norwegian freighter on the St. Lawrence Seaway, Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953 and at McMurdo Sound in the South Pole. He was a member of the Zoning Board for Delaware Township and the Water Reclamation Board for Sanilac County. He was a parishioner at St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in Forestville since 1983. William was a Little League coach in Birmingham and for the Pony league, Class D. He and his wife wintered in Florida. He truly enjoyed model trains, photography, gardening, woodworking, fishing, and golfing. He is survived by his wife, Eunice Lutz of Forestville, MI; one daughter, Barbara Weil of Forestville; one son, Paul Lutz of Bingham Farms; two sisters, Annette Laige and Gertrude Wells, both of St. Clair Shores. He was preceded in death by one brother, Henry. The memorial mass will be 11 am, Tuesday, September 6 at St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in Forestville. Rev. Donald Eppenbrock will officiate. Visitation with William’s family will be at the St. John Church in Forestville from 10 am until the mass at 11 am. Memorials are requested to the St. Clair County LBPH, 210 McMorran Blvd., Port Huron, MI 48060. Care has been entrusted to the Smigielski Funeral Home in Minden City.
