Mr. Michael N. Ertman, 52 of Ubly, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at William Beaumont Hospital in Troy. He was born November 22, 1958 in Detroit to Marshall Ertman and Rosalie Flannery. He married Catherine Rutherford in 1985 in California. Michael was a 1976 graduate of Sandusky High School. He served in the US Army from 1976-1979. He then attended Ferris State University. After Ferris, Michael attended Officers Training School, which included Green Beret, Rangers and Special Forces. He was a Colonel. He worked for a Private Security Company in Afghanistan for five years. He enjoyed fishing, antique cars, woodworking, scuba diving and reading. Michael is survived by one son, Michael R. Ertman of Henderson, Nevada; one daughter, Kathryn Ertman of Tacoma, Wash.; one grandson, Braden; his father, Marshall Ertman of Ubly; his mother, Rosalie Flannery of Henderson, Nevada; one brother, James Ertman and his wife, Terry, of Henderson, Nev.; three sisters, Kathy Panik of Bedford Heights, Ohio, Rosemary Heinonen and her husband, John of Ubly, Marsha Gamble and her husband, Dan, of Gregory, Mich.; nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am Monday, June 20, 2011 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Freiburg. Rev. Joseph Griffin, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Saturday from 6:30-9 pm, Sunday from 1-9 pm and Monday from 9-10 am. Memorials are requested to the Family Discretionary Fund.
