Raymond Joseph Vogel

June 24, 1921 — May 30, 2011

Raymond Joseph Vogel, 89 of Bad Axe and formerly of Harbor Beach, passed away Monday, May 30, 2011 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe. He was born on June 24, 1921 in Sherman Township to the late George and Clara (Essenmacher) Vogel. He never married. Raymond was a graduate of the Sherman Country School. He worked the family farm with his parents and in later years his brother, Herbert. He also worked at Midwest Rubber in Deckerville for a few years. He loved having company and if you visited him you never went away hungry. He always had many treats for everyone. He enjoyed reading newspapers, playing cards and checkers and traveling to different states for years. He truly enjoyed feeding the cattle and being in the fields. He is survived by one sister, Rose Banker and her husband, Douglas of Sandusky; two brothers, Daniel and his wife Mildred of Minden City, Herbert and his wife Patricia of Ruth; one sister-in-law, Janice Vogel of Rosebush. Mich.; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Marcus and Jerome; one sister, Lillian. The funeral Mass will be 11 am Thursday, June 2, 2011 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helena. Rev. William Spencer, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly on Wednesday from 2-9 pm and Thursday from 9-10 am. There will be a parish vigil service on Wednesday evening at 7:30 pm by Fr. Spencer. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Courtney Manor for the wonderful care they gave Raymond for the past year and a half. Memorials are requested to the Family Discretionary Fund.
